“Alright dog owners, it’s about that time that we have a talk about your dog and what to do when kids come around them.”

Now, it’s something dog owners don’t like to think about, but experts say you should.

According to State Farm & cinewsnow.com, 2/3 of American households have pets, and many of those pets are canines.

Dog behavioral expert Victoria Stilwell says,
“That’s the tragedy in all of this, that it doesn’t have to happen. Take time to understand your dog, or just dogs in general.”

State Farm Insurance says the amount they paid for dog-related injury claims increased by 3.4% between 2014 & 2015.

This week they’re teaming up with dog behavioral experts to teach people, especially kids, how to avoid dog bites.

Just in case you need to have your memory refreshed on what to teach kids on how to avoid dogs from biting them, here are a couple of tips to teach your kids:

1) Don’t touch a dog you don’t know

2) If a dog comes up to you, don’t make any sudden movements and don’t run away.
