The much popular Gus Macker Basketball Tournament is coming back to the River City!
According to cinewsnow.com, after nearly nine years, Gus Macker officials announced on Facebook, earlier this week, that the three-on-three basketball tournament would return this Summer.
The tournament was held in downtown Peoria for 14 years, before leaving in 2007; this event moved across the river to Washington, IL for a four-year run.
Brad Pierson, a member of the committee that’s bringing the Gus Macker back to Peoria said,
“As small as 200 but maybe as large as 400. We’ll have to look at how the registrations go; we’ve looked at some things downtown and we’ve looked at some things center city and we’ve looked at some things all the way out north.”
Peoria Mayor Jim Ardis said,
“With the size of it some issues came up with safety and things like that; some of the games were getting kind of rough and the community was concerned about it.”
Organizers will announce the site of this summer’s Gus Macker on this weekend, although its been narrowed down to two potential locations and a source says it’ll will be held on private property.
The dates of the Gus Macker Tournament will take place the weekend of Saturday, July 30th and Sunday, July 31st.
