Retailer Von Maur is looking at some closing Bon-Ton stores across the country as possible sites for expansion.
The Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel and WEEK-TV reports the family-owned, Iowa-based chain is eyeing some Bon-Ton properties across the U.S. Von Maur has 32 stores in 15 states, most of which are mall anchors.
Among Bon-Ton’s family of chains is Bergner’s, a staple in Central Illinois for over a century. Bergner’s stores that have just recently closed are the Shoppes at Grand Prairie in Peoria, Eastland Mall in Bloomington, Sandburg Mall in Galesburg, and Peru Mall. Bergner’s also had locations at Sheridan Village in Peoria and East Court Village in Pekin.
Von Maur currently operates a location at the Shoppes at College Hills in Normal.
Asked for comment, Von Maur’s chief operating officer told the paper they have no announcements at this time for store purchases.
