1. MLB All-Star Weekend
Probably the most important all-star game of any sport is making its way to the Nation’s Capital. The best that the major leagues has to offer, and the minor leagues, too, will be front and center to meet and greet fans for a once in a lifetime experience. Folks won’t be flocking to D.C. just for the Midsummer Classic. The multi-day event will also include All-Star Legends and Celebrity Softball Game, the Home Run Derby, and Fan Fest.
2. NBA Finals
Who will be the new king of the NBA? LeBron, Steph Curry, or a newcomer? This year’s NBA Playoffs are probably the most competitive it has been in recent years. Unlike MLB All-Star Weekend, there aren’t a plethora of festivities surrounding the occasion and that’s when one team hoists the championship trophy through their city. Come this June, we’ll find out which city will be so lucky.
3. Stanley Cup Finals
If basketball don’t tickle your fancy, a bunch of guys fighting on ice skates HAS to be for you. Just like the NBA, there are no festivities, just the playoffs. It’s going to be a tough race. According to the Washington Post, Tampa Bay Lightning has a 15 percent chance of winning it all. That’s only one percent better than the Nashville Predators’ chances. The Vegas Golden Knights -hockey’s newest team – aren’t too far behind.
4. World Cup
This is for four years worth of bragging rights. Players from 32 nations hit the field at Luzhniki Stadium in Moscow to bend it like Beckham. This year’s battle is wide open. Some of the usual favorites failed to even qualify to play a game in the tournament, including the United States, Ghana, Chile, and Wales among others. Nonetheless, there’s no better feeling than World Cup fever.
5. Kentucky Derby
Get your best hats ready. The Kentucky Derby is one of the oldest and most anticipated sporting events in the world. “The Most Exciting Two Minutes In Sports” is the first leg of Triple Crown and takes place on the first Saturday in May. The horse race caps of two-weeks of the Kentucky Derby Festival. Everyone is watches to see which horse has a shot at making history.
