According to pjstar.com, the Peoria Rivermen chose tradition over innovation Sunday in the SPHL’s inaugural Challenge Round selection show.
The Number 1-seeded Rivermen, selected Number 8 seed Roanoke Rail Yard Dawgs as their first-round playoff opponent in a best-of-3 series that starts Wednesday in Roanoke, VA.
Here’s the 1st Round schedule for Peoria:
Game 1, Wednesday: Peoria at Roanoke (Liberty University, LaHaye Ice Center), Lynchburg, VA., 6pm
Game 2, Friday: Roanoke at Peoria, Owens Center, 7:15pm
Game 3, Saturday (if needed): Roanoke at Peoria, Owens Center, 7:15pm
Under a new format in the SPHL (Southern Professional Hockey League), the top three regular-season point finishers earned the right to choose their first-round playoff opponent from among seed finishers five through eight.
The other teams who also participated in the SPHL Playoff Challenge are as follows:
No. 2 Macon chose No. 6 Evansville, and No. 3 Pensacola selected No. 5 Knoxville.
That left No. 4 Huntsville, matched up with No. 7 Mississippi.
Playoff Schedule Reminder:
The Rivermen will not have Carver Arena available for the first round of the SPHL playoffs, as it is booked with another event.
The reigning SPHL points champions will be able to play the rest of the postseason at Carver Arena after that, though, if they advance.
Roanoke is also booked out of its Berglund Center home ice. Its game will be hosted at LaHaye Ice Center on the Liberty University campus in Lynchburg, VA.
Owens Ice Skating Center capacity is about 950.
The Rivermen will sell bleacher seating tickets for $15 and standing-room-only tickets for $12.
Fans on the team’s Pay-As-You-Go playoff plan will be allowed into Owens Center 30 minutes earlier than the public to pick spaces in the general admission seating bleachers.
Tickets are on sale now and can be purchased through the Rivermen team offices at Carver Arena.
Call the team at (309) 676-1040 to order. Or go to the team’s website at rivermen.net, where there will be a link to order online.
