According to WEEK-TV, a section of Interstate 55 near Towanda, IL will be renamed for a fallen Army sergeant from McLean County.

The Illinois House and Senate voted to rename the section of I-55 after Sgt. Anthony Maddox, who died in a fueling accident in Afghanistan in 2013.

“Anthony Maddox was only 22 when he lost his life serving our country. It’s a tragedy that his life was cut short, but he will long be honored and remembered here in the community where he grew up,” Representative Dan Brady (R-Bloomington) said.

Maddox attended Chiddix Junior High School and Normal Community High School.

His football teammates nicknamed him “Mad Dog” for his “fearsome presence on the field.”
