A phone scam circulating in Macon County, IL threatens to take money from the victim’s bank account.

According to WAND-TV, a Facebook post from the Macon County State’s Attorney’s Office says the caller will claim to be from a computer subscription service.

They tell the victim their membership is expiring and threaten to take $299 out of the person’s account if they don’t return the call.

The person calling has a computer-generated voice in these calls.

The page says people should always hang up these calls if they receive them. Investigators previously said scams should always be reported to authorities.
