In response to violence, a new program will offer a year-round basketball league to boys in Peoria’s East Bluff area.
The free program is offered to boys age 8 through 14.
Several groups are helping to sponsor the Rebound program, including Peoria Charter Coach Company, Illinois American Water and the Par-A-Dice hotel and casino.
The program is taking place at the East Bluff Community Center in the 500 block of east Kansas street.
Participants get meals and snacks as well as talks on various subjects, including: honesty, respect, and bullying.
It all tips off Saturday, January 27th.
So far, about 15 kids are registered for the free program, according to a spokesperson at the Peoria YMCA.
“And then word of mouth travels really fast. As these kids start to experience what they’re going to experience, they’re going to talk to their friends. They’re going to bring them along. And we’re not going to turn them away. We’re going to find a spot for them,” said Andy Thornton, President and CEO.
To register, call the Peoria YMCA 309-692-7631 x207 or email [email protected]
