The Peoria Gus Macker 3 on 3 Basketball Tournament scheduled for the end of this month, has been canceled due to financial difficulties.

In a press release, Peoria Area Community Events (PACE) said a reduction of sponsorships and “in kind services” forced the group to cancel this year’s tournament, which was set for July 29th and 30th.

The group said in a press release,

“PACE is not in the position to absorb the expense not covered by sponsors; we encourage players to sign up for other locations around the state.”

The Gus Macker tournament returned to downtown Peoria amid great fanfare last year after it was hosted in other central Illinois communities for several years.

The PACE board said it will look into bringing the Gus Macker tournament back in 2018.
