United Airlines has announced that it is shaking things up with the addition of the “Basic Economy” class.

The good news? If you choose this class, you will pay less for your ticket.

The bad news is if you have a carry-on bag to stow overhead, you have to pay extra.

Fliers would have to check their luggage and bring one small item, like a laptop or standard backpack, that fits under the seat.

Families could also be separated because seats will be assigned the day of the flight.

Basic economy fares will be available in January.
