Peoria native Shaun Livingston boosts Concordia Lutheran School renovations with $1 million donation.
Concordia Lutheran School is well on its way to raising $3.1 million to expand and renovate, thanks to a $1 million donation from alumnus and professional basketball player Shaun Livingston.
Several hundred students, staff, alumni, and elected officials, including Peoria Mayor Jim Ardis, gathered in the school parking lot earlier this week for groundbreaking ceremonies to kick off the first phase of renovations.
Kelly Schuetz, Concordia Lutheran’s board chairman said,
“Shaun Livingston has been a big player in this, pun intended. His donation was really instrumental in making sure this took off.”
According to pjstar.com, the campaign currently has raised $2.4 million since fundraising began in the Fall 2015.
The 16,000-square-foot expansion includes construction of a storm shelter capable of withstanding 200 mph winds and expansion of the gym and performance stage for band/theater and the expanded gym will feature bleacher seating for 500.
With the first phase of work being completed later this year, the second phase of the project will include replacing windows, updating the exterior, and expanding the parking lot; this work will be scheduled to begin next Summer 2017.
